Clueless about Acupuncture

Written March 29, 2014

My acupuncturist went hard on me this morning. So. Many. Needles. I remember him telling me in the beginning that he was taking it easy on me. I guess he’s decided I’m ready for the real deal. And apparently my shoulder muscles were troubling him, because he spent a fair amount of time working things out there and then slathered me up with tiger sports balm, which smells like Cinnaburst and burns like the blue blazes of hell. (Fabian, my masseuse, says I have a lot of tension in my back.) Consequently, I’m going about my day in a mildly dazed/relaxed haze. I did notice a dark blue bruise on my lower pelvis following my treatment. This can happen from time to time in an area where a needle hits a nerve or is painful going in. It’s rare, and it only hurts for a minute, but I do remember a needle in this area hurting me initially. Hopefully, my chi is now good down there.

As an update, that pain apparently is what he calls “the energy.” He had to move a few needles around this last time to get “the energy” flowing properly in order to target my lungs and sinuses against the onslaught of seasonal allergies. I think I’m good on “the energy,” thanks.
